The Town of Brookline Information Technology Department is seeking a hands-on Senior Data and Applications Administrator to design, develop, implement, integrate and administer the Town of Brookline’s databases and applications. This position performs a key role in all areas of database management, maintenance, monitoring and support across all IT applications.

The Senior Data and Applications Administrator provides leadership in all areas of database management, database integration, maintenance, monitoring and support across all IT applications including ERP systems for both Town and Schools and serves as the chief data officer who oversees data security, privacy and transparency. All other related work as required.

Qualifications: We are seeking a flexible, qualified Senior Data and Applications Administrator with a BA/BS in computer science, management information systems, engineering, GIS or related fields. Candidates should have 5 years or more of experience in designing, implementing, securing, and supporting production SQL server databases; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with most recent SQL server is preferable. Experience in database administration, systems administration or software development environment. Database security experience essential.

Senior Data and Applications Administrator Job Description

Position Purpose
Performs senior professional and technical work to design, develop, implement, integrate and administer the Town of Brookline’s databases and applications. This position performs a key role in all areas of database management, maintenance, monitoring and support across all IT applications. All other related work as required.

Supervision
Supervision Scope: Performs technical duties requiring a high level of initiative, creativity and independent judgment in planning for the development, management, and support of the Town’s production databases, data warehouses, and database security.

Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Digital Services Manager. Once priorities are set, works with considerable latitude for independent judgment and action.

Supervision Given: None.

Job Environment
Work may be performed under a variety of conditions and locations which may include time sensitive objectives and stressful situations. Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Regularly attends meetings at various locations within the Town. Occasionally attends technical conferences.

May be required to work after normal business hours or contacted at home at any time to respond to important situations and emergencies. Position may require pager or cell phone connectivity to be provided by the Town.

Operates computers, printers, scanners, and other peripherals, telephone, and other standard office equipment.

Has regular contact with various Town/School Departments, the general public, computer hardware and software vendors, and software technical support personnel. Interdepartmental contacts involve gathering information regarding their computing needs, answering questions, solving problems, and providing training and support.

Has access to confidential information, which requires the application of appropriate judgment, discretion and professional office protocols.

Errors could result in substantial confusion and delay, loss or mismanagement of information, loss of time to correct errors, possible financial loss to the town, and may have legal repercussions.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
BA/BS in computer science, management information systems, engineering, GIS or related fields. Candidates should have 5 years or more of experience in designing, implementing, securing, and supporting production SQL server databases; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with most recent SQL server is preferable. Experience in database administration, systems administration or software development environment. Database security experience essential.

Additional Requirements
A valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of relational database programs. SQL knowledge required. Working knowledge of Microsoft network technology, including Active Directory structure and security concepts. Thorough knowledge of Windows server operating systems. Expert knowledge of MS SQL Server all current versions. Expert knowledge of database security standards. Knowledge of ERP systems a plus.

Ability: Demonstrated ability to maintain database security. Ability to give clear instructions and to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to maintain SQL server databases. Ability to troubleshoot issues at the database and operating system levels. Ability to develop software programs. Ability to install and troubleshoot all database programs and integration between systems. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with various departments; Ability to develop schedules and long-range/short range plans to achieve stated goals. Ability to work as part of a team.

Skill: Excellent communication and analytical skills. Strong customer service and technical skills. Demonstrated skill in managing multiple tasks and projects with attention to detail and accuracy. Skill in all of the above listed technology, tools and equipment.

Ability to manipulate light to medium weights of 10 – 15 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, and visual acuity to read technical information. Regularly required to drive to multiple locations throughout the Town to perform work.
