Landscape Architect/Designer (Part-time)

The Town of Brookline is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Landscape Architect/Designer with 5 years plus of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with proven design skills with strong passion for the public realm and community engagement. Brookline has a long history of providing a diverse network of passive and active recreation parks and open spaces for residents and visitors. This part-time position offers 14-18 hours per week with a competitive hourly rate of $40-50, depending on experience. What you’ll do:

  • Design, Develop, manage all phases of project from concept design through construction documentation.
  • Analyze sites, defines program elements, develop conceptual design, create preliminary construction cost.
  • Coordinate and oversee scope, schedule and budget of multiple projects; set design, safety and accessibility priorities and maintain accurate progress records as appropriate.
  • Administer various park construction projects
  • Coordinate proposed improvements with other town departments and divisions.
  • Prepare and present design concepts to community groups, boards, and commissions.
  • Serve as a liaison with other departments, commissions and agencies with respect to projects assigned.
  • Participate as interdisciplinary/departmental team member to provide expertise in the areas of visual quality, environmental impact, vegetation, landscape plans, etc.
  • Facilitate the public process and design review process by scheduling and leading public meetings, fulfilling meeting notification requirements.

Qualifications:

• Master’s or Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited program
• Preference for Registered Landscape Architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, but not essential.
• 5-7 years of experience.
• Experience in performing professional landscape architecture in all design phases from master planning to construction documentation and administration for parks and open space projects.
• Experience in project coordination with strong management skills.
• Strong communication, presentation, and public speaking skills.
• Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft suites, rendering, AutoCAD, 3D Modeling, and sketching.
• Possession of Massachusetts Class D driver’s license required.

  • Passionate about working with the community and knowledge on community engagement.
  • Self-motivated and strong time management skills.
  • Graphic skills needed for public presentations and drafting skills for construction drawings.
  • Verbal and written skills for public and technical communications.
  • Ability to manage and execute project tasks independently with minimal oversight.

The position works 14-18 hours weekly with a flexible schedule, however attendance at occasional evening meetings may be required. Salary Range $40-50/hourly depending on qualifications. This position is open until filled. Please apply with resume and cover letter.
