The Town of Brookline’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking a Carpenter Laborer for the Highway Division. In this role, you will perform skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, equipment repair, seasonal snow/ice management, and manual labor to maintain and improve public spaces and infrastructure. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carpentry & Repair: Inspect and repair playground equipment, town benches, barrels, fences, and other infrastructure. Perform general repairs and address safety deficiencies as needed.

  • Construction & Installation: Construct or remodel rooms in town buildings, build and install office furniture, countertops, and cabinets, and assemble barricades.

  • Snow & Ice Removal: Participate in snow and ice removal during emergencies, including plowing and sanding streets.

  • General Labor: Assist in the maintenance of town buildings, graffiti removal, and repairing damage caused by town equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma; additional training in carpentry; three years of experience performing rough and finished carpentry work; experience working on a range of projects and performing snow and ice removal; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Additional Requirement: Valid Driver’s License, Class D.
  • Knowledge, Ability, and Skill: Knowledge of rough and finish carpentry, safety practices, and work zone safety; ability to read plans and specifications, make repairs, address unique situations, lift heavy objects, and perform strenuous labor; skill in using hand and power tools; problem-solving skills.
